KATHARINA DEBUS

"The Stouxingers is world like no other. Nowhere else do I have to be so disciplined, so precise; yet a the same time, I can't imagine a place where my voice is granted more freedom. Not only am I allowed to croak and groan, scream and whistle but it's fully expected of me. There are no limits. There's a lot of work, and endless fun. And it's always great to see our own joy, reflected in the reaction of the audience."

Katharina is the voice and female half of the duo FRAU CONTRA BASS.

MICHAEL EIMANN

„No other instrument is as manifold as the human voice. The only problem is possibly it's limited polophony. The answer: six voices. It's always fascinating to construct a purely vocal shape on my own, then to have the other singers help bring it to life. To investigate the human voice, to elicit its own unique sounds and to experience this dressed in a multiplex of harmony, is a fantastic thing. And after all these years with the Stouxingers, with these five fantastic voices, it's still a wonder for me every time we take the stage.“

Founder of the STOUXINGERS, Michael is the composer and arranger of the group's songs. He works as a freelance composer, pianist, theatre musician, and actor. He also swings with the JAVA FIVE.

GREGORIO HERNÁNDEZ

“Already as a kid, I used to sing along with every song playing on the radio (even though it must have been some kind of mix-art language I was singing because I was clueless about the English). In the going through the records of my parents I also got a quite early musical education. Later I discovered the universalism of Gospel and Soul and understood with it: Everybody has a voice, so now go and learn to benefit your own! Singing is unbelievably relieving, stirring, and electrifying – addiction and blessing at the same time. But most of all, it’s incredibly much fun. Every one of the Stouxingers has his own timbre. We have such big range to play with… The holy grail of vocal music wants to be found.”

KARSTEN MÜLLER

„My musical roots are in classical music. At the moment, I'm studying opera, as bass, at the Musikhochschule in Leipzig. I started singing as a seven-year-old tearaway in a boys' choir in Jena, following this over the years by singing in a few classical ensembles. All in all, singing jazz and dance music with the Stouxingers is stepping out on new terrain for me. It's all about celebrating the groove. One of my earliest influences would definitely be the King's Singers, while today I'd really rate someone like Take 6. I've always been a fan of a cappella, and I'm just honoured to be a stoux singer.“

Karsten is part of the Ensemble CHAPELLE DE LA VIGNE, and works regularly as a soloist.

THOMAS PIONTEK

„I took my first musical steps as a member of the well-known boys' choir, Stadtsingechor, in Halle. For quite a while, the oboe was actually my main musical instrument (along with piano, percussion, and guitar... hand him an instrument and leave him with it for five minutes... note from the editorial). A few years later, I started to study sacred music in Halle. I'm currently working as a cantor in Weissenfels, and am hence the custodian of a huge, old church door key. I'm the leader of several choirs. I give workshops, and make music with people from all over the world. Like Michael and Konrad, I also indulge my passion for swing, singing in the Java Five. I am the Stouxingers' beatbox.“

Thomas is a much sought-after conductor for choirs. He is the leader of the Gospel Choir JOY'N US among others and he also swings with the JAVA FIVE.

KONRAD ZEINER

„For as long as I can remember, I've always been fascinated by the human voice. I'm happy to be one of those people able to turn their hobby into a profession... and get up a little later in the morning... but having worked so late the night before. I love singing and for many years, I've enjoyed setting lyrics to music in German, English, or French. As baritone and noise generator, performing with the Stouxingers is a true pleasure for me... If a motley crew of singers is not just up to pleasing with nice sounds and lo-fi entertainment, vocal music gets a real adventure, making people happy everywhere.“

Konrad writes for the STOUXINGERS, swings with the JAVA FIVE and is also part of the Electronic pop music project, BRÜDER ZUR SONNE, where he composes, and leads listeners to either dance or ponder.
